Practical information
DELF/DALF
The DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are French language certifications for non-native speakers, issued by the French Ministry of National Education through the International Centre for Pedagogical Studies ( CIEP).
The DELF consists of 4 independent diplomas, corresponding to the first four levels of the common European framework of reference for languages: A1, A2, B1, B2
The DALF consists of 2 independent diplomas, corresponding to the 2 highest levels of the common European framework of reference for languages: C1, C2
The 6 diplomas that make up the DELF and the DALF are totally independent. Thus, the candidate, depending on his/her level, can register directly for the examination of his/her choice.
The 4 competencies are evaluated for each level: oral comprehension and oral production, written comprehension and production.
The levels of the DELF and the DALF correspond to the language levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
Levels A1 and A2: Basic levels
DELF A1 (from 60 to 100 hours of French)
DELF A2 (about 200 hours of French)
Levels B1 and B2: Independent levels
DELF B1 (about 400 hours of French)
DELF B2 (about 600 hours of French)
Levels C1 and C2: Experienced levels
DALF C1 (about 800 hours of French)
DALF C2 (900 hours and over French)
TCF
The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is a test developed by the International Centre for Pedagogical Studies (CIEP) aimed at all non-native French speakers who wish, for personal, professional or educational reasons, to seek recognition of their knowledge in French with a simple, reliable and recognized certification.
It positions the candidates on one of the 6 levels of the scale defined by the common European framework of reference for languages: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2
The validity of the results is 2 years, from the exam date
Evaluated skills:
The review of the TCF exam evaluates with 80 questions (mandatory tests) the level of knowledge and skills:
Oral comprehension 30 questions - 20 min
Knowledge of the language structures 20 questions - 20 min
